Gap Year / Study Abroad - As we begin a new academic school year, students who will be graduating are starting to think about what they want to do next year. Some are eagerly scouting universities while others are considering taking some time off. With Aardvark Israel Gap Year and Study Abroad program they can do both!

Aardvark Israel is fully accredited by Portland State University. Participants can earn up to 30 college credits, whilst also interning/volunteering in a field of their choice, tour around Israel and learn valuable life skills. We run programs for Jewish students aged 17-21 from all over the world and we know that you have a large Jewish student population in your school and we have even had a few graduates come on our programs before.

As part of our recruitment efforts, we travel abroad to various schools and academies to present Aardvark Israel Programs to prospective students. I will be visiting Kansas City on Monday 30th October and I would like the opportunity to visit Blue Valley North High School to meet with interested students and /or the team of guidance counselors. Please let me know if we can arrange a visit.

Veterninary Medicine Careeers Exploration - a Virtual Workshop Created Especially for High School & College Students interested in Veterinary Medicine

Saturday, October 14, 2023, 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon EDT

Dr. Leslie Brooks, Veterinarian & Public Health Professional

Dr. Brooks earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and a Master of Public Health degree at the University of Tennessee, in Knoxville. Her interests include access to veterinary care, animal welfare, and impactful policy as well as being passionate about communication and education.

Dr. Vikas Mendhiratta, HRA Staff Veterinarian

Dr. Mendhiratta graduated from the Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in North Grafton, Massachusetts in 2019. He earned his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from the University of Maryland. His interests include expanding high-quality care within the community and veterinary education.

Join Drs. Brooks and Mendhiratta as they share their own educational journeys, career paths, and work experiences. This is a chance for students, in grades 9-12 and undergraduates, interested in veterinary medicine to hear first-hand accounts from veterinarians. Drs. Brooks and Mendhiratta will tell how they prepared for vet school, mastered vet school, and chose their post-graduation careers. There will be limited time for Q & A at the end of each speaker's presentation.

Community Service

Framework - I want to make you aware of an opportunity for area high school students to gain service hours by attending upcoming public meetings hosted by the city of Overland Park. The city will host four open house meetings later this month as part of our comprehensive plan update (i.e., a plan that looks at how and where we should develop land in the future). The planning process is called FrameworkOP - check out our website for more information: FrameworkOP.org. The meetings will all be in the same format, but at different times and locations to provide options for attendance. See the attached flyer for event information which you can share. I am happy to sign off on any paperwork if needed or if you have a suggestion for a way to track their attendance, I'd be open to that as well. The last time the city updated our plan was more than 40 years ago. This is a unique opportunity to involve youth voices in a plan that could impact the future of Overland Park for generations to come. Childcare volunteer opp - My name is Kaitlyn Hanich, and I am a Senior Nursery Associate at Resurrection, A United Methodist Church. We are currently seeking individuals over the age of 14 to volunteer in our kids programming ages 6 weeks-5^th grade for the upcoming school year. I was wondering if any of you could put me into contact with leaders at your school who teach students who need community service hours? I was thinking maybe National Honor Society, students who are looking to boost their resume, students who are interested in teaching as a profession, or other clubs your school offers.
